Centered around the fundamental issues of the alternate electric power systems with renewable generations and focused on the above-mentioned three scopes, the re-search activities of the Lab encompass a broad spectrum with a large number of na-tional major or key projects being under-taken, with a lot of leading research a-chievements having been yielded in some areas of research excellence. Over the past five years, the Lab has undertaken 757 research projects of different types, with a total research fund up to ¥477million, chaired 3 National Key Basic Research and Development Program ("973" Program) and 2 sub-projects, 6 State Key Programs of National Natural Sciences and 3 National Outstanding Youth Science Fund Projects. Over 1,458 journal papers have been published with 181/957 indexed by SCI and EI respectively, together with 127 invention patent applications including 27 granted ones, 20 authored and/or co-authored professional books, and 25 awards at national /provincial/ministerial levels.

At present, the Lab has 91 tenure-track faculty members including 81 academic staff, among whom there are 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 awardees of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 3 chief scientists of “973” Program, 3 winner of the National Thousand People Plan,6 awardees of the National Project of “Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand” Professionals, 3 winners of the “Hundred Talents Program” with Chinese Academy of Science. Moreover, 3 Innovative Teams under Ministry of Education and 3 bases of the “University Disciplines Innovation and Talent Introduction Plan” (i.e. “111 Plan”) are also based in the Lab.

With a gross area of about 6,000 square meters, the Lab consists of 7 platforms, namely, the Experimental Platform of Power Generation Process Monitoring and Control, the Platform for Wind Power Generation, Closed-loop Control Platform for Electric Power System with Renewable Energy Sources, Station and System Level Protection and Control Platform, Platform for Conversion and High-efficiency Utilization of Renewable Power, Advanced Power Transmission and Gas-insulated Transmission Platform.

Extensive intercommunications and collaborations have been carried out in the Lab with a lot of renowned domestic and international research institutes. In the past 5 years, the lab has so far set up 42 SKL projects with a total research fund of ¥1.82 million. The lab has received about 30 visiting scholars for research purposes from home and abroad and sent 230 researchers to domestic and international academic conferences. Over 66 scholars with international reputation have been invited for special speeches or lectures at big academic conference events. The Lab has also successfully organized 19 significant international and national conferences.

Very great importance has been continuously attached by NCEPU to the facilities construction of the Lab. The university has established a specific construction committee which is chaired by President Jizhen Liu and co-chaired by vice President Yongping Yang, with the directors of relevant administrative departments serving as committee members. Regarding the Lab’s future development, the university commits to an input of at least ¥4o million during the construction period plus an annual fund of ¥2 million for the running of the Lab. The gross area of the Lab is scheduled to increase by 2,000 square meters, up to 8,000 square meters in the near future.

Being directed by Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Beijing Municipal as well as Hebei Provincial Governments, together with the strong support of NCEPU, the Lab will make fullest endeavors to explore current research resources and academic strength, with a prospective view to playing a leading role in elevating the disciplinary level, improving operational security and efficiency of the electric power systems with renewable generations, maintaining top-level academic intercommunications as well as cultivating outstanding S&T talents.
